Memorable quotes:
Stephen: "I purposely spilled beer on you to start a conversation.
Sara: You purposely spilled beer on me?"
Sara: "I didn't throw up on you last night, did I?
Rebecca: No!"
Sara: "Are you from here?
Rebecca: 20 minutes away.
Sara: Wow, that must be nice: going home on the week ends, free laundry, free meals...
Rebecca: Yeah, not gonna happen.
Sara: Why?
Rebecca: Let's just say nothing is free in my house."
Professor Roberts: It's my job to make you understand that each of you can be an artist.
Rebecca: "The Devil Wears Prada is your favourite movie?
Sara: Yeah, why?
Rebecca: Nothing, it's just not classic...is all.
Sara: I know that, but it's about a small town girl making it in the fashion world.
Rebecca: Oh, like you!
Sara: Yeah!"
Sara: "You're like the first roommate I've had since she died. So, it's a little hard.
Rebecca: In a good way, or a bad way?
Sara: A good way."
Professor Roberts: Contrary to popular opinions, beauty is not in the eyes of the beholder, it's in the hands of the designer.
Professor Roberts:" All the money in the world can't buy you style.
Sara: But it can buy you a good stylist.
Professor Roberts: Touché."
Rebecca: You wanna know what I think? I think you're a trashy little party-going whore, and you're a bad influence on her. If you tell anyone about this I will kill you.
Stephen: Well, thank you for helping me not study.
Sara: Anytime.
Rebecca: That's what I call instant Karma.
Sara: "It's not deep, thank god.You should see a doctor.
Rebecca: No!
Sara: Rebecca, you need to, and then the police.
Rebecca: No, I can't.
Sara: You're calling them or I am. There is a psycho walking around this campus.
Rebecca: Please; I didn't even see him!
Sara: It doesn't matter. You need to talk to the police.
Rebecca: Sara please, I only want you to know!
Sara: Rebecca...
Rebecca: Don't tell anybody, please!
Sara: Okay, I won't tell. Just let me help you.
Rebecca: Are you mad at me?
Sara: Why would I be mad at you?"
Sara: "I haven't heard from Jason in weeks. It's weird how he stopped calling.
Rebecca: That's what you wanted, right?
Sara: Yeah. Yeah, I guess it is."
Sara: "This is your home?
Rebecca: This is my parents' house. It was never a home when I lived here."
Jeff Evans: As a parent you worry. You protect your daughter all her life, and then she goes off to college, she's on her own, and you never know who she'll be exposed to.
Irene: Sorry to stare, but you're really beautiful.
Jason: "I love you so much.
Rebecca: She doesn't love you."
Sara: "What are you doing?
Rebecca: Sit down, shut up! Listen to me, all I ever wanted was to be your friend.
Sara: Rebecca, I am your friend.
Rebecca: No, you're not.
Sara: Yes, I am!
Rebecca: No, you're not. We're here because you betrayed me.
Sara: Rebecca, I'm your friend.
Rebecca: Stop! Stop saying things you don't mean! "
Plot:
It's Sara Matthews' first year at uni, and like every freshmen, she has to share her dorm room with a roommate, who she has never met before...
Review:
The Roommate seems to be a bad remake of Single White Female. I really expected more from this film, and especially from the actors that were cast for this movie. At first sight, it looked like the cast had been fairly well chosen: you got the famous Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, Minka Kelly, who is well known for her role in Friday Night Lives, Easy Girl mean girl Aly Michalka, who also went on playing in the short lived TV shows Hellcats, Cam Gigandet, a bad boy previously seen on The O.C., and Danneel Harris who I loved in One Tree Hill (although the writers did ruin her character) and in Ten Inch Hero. I must say that apart from Danneel-who unfortunately only had a small part-the rest of the cast was pretty bad. I was especially disappointed in Leighton Meester's performance. Her acting was okay, but I'm used to see her act a lot better in Gossip Girl. Same goes for Aly Michalka. I just don't think that anyone can say that she's a brilliant actress, although she did improve while being on Hellcats. The duo Leighton/Minka was just painful to watch. Terrible acting and terrible lines usually go along, and The Roommate makes no exception to the rules. What really bothers me is how much potential this movie had. It was meant to be scary, or at least scare you at times, but in fact it didn't make me jump off my seat, not even once. In that respect, I really think that it did fail to meet its aim. Most of the dialogues are ridiculous and a lot of the plot is absolutely predictable. I guess that's what happens when you drain a movie that reached success, which I believe is the case of Single White Woman. The "I only want you to have one best friend" explanation seemed almost laughable in the end. I also found it hard to believe that if someone is that mentally disturbed, she wouldn't be checked regularly by a doctor to make sure she was still on her medication. Rebecca's parents did seem concern, but it's like they chose to ignore that their daughter could be dangerous. There were also a few plot holes that made me cringe, but they probably would have been okay had the movie be good overall. Nevertheless in this precise case, it's just something more to be disappointed of by this film. Also, poor cat...
Now, I have to admit that this movie is still somehow entertaining, and you might want to check it out if you are a Leighton Meester fan. I just think that this movie is more of a one-time-only watch. The plot is still disturbing, as it is in Single White Female, but it just needed to be taken further than it has been.
