Directed by: Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath & Conrad Vernon
Memorable quotes:
Alex: You guys, you both made and ruined my day.
Monkey: Haha, what's new pussycat?
Alex: "What about the plane?
Penguin: Well, the chimps will work through the night. No breaks, no safety restrictions. Hey! Where are you going? Get back here, we have a contract!
Monkey: Yes, well I'm afraid labour laws are slightly more lenient in France. You see, they only have to work two weeks a year.
Penguin: Well, someone else has the Canadian work ethic."
Alex: We're not going home. We're never going home.
Marty: What are we going to do? We can't hide forever.
Gloria: And we can't just blend.
Vitaly: I don't trust lions. Hair too big and glossy.
Marty: Aw, would you look at this? You gotta go back to your mama's belly because you're too cute to be out there in the real world.
Marty: And by stool you mean chair, right?
Alex: Circus is about following your passions, wherever they take you.
Alex: You know what I say to that? I say, they can take the animals out of the circus, but they cannot take the animals out of the circus. I mean they cannot... I think you understand what I'm saying.
All: Yeah!
Stefano: No!
Alex: We don't need humans, because we've got passion.
Alex: Hey, hey, hey, put your weapons down! Come on guys, chill out. Cute and cuddly is obviously not your thing.
Stefano: My tears are real! You are not!
Alex: When we were with the circus, we were already home. I wish we had realized that sooner.
Alex: We make it right by telling them how wrong we were.
Alex: "This is were animals like you belong. Now sit! Lie down!
Mort: Hihihi, naughty me!
Alex: Roll over. Good Dubois. Now stay!"
Plot:
When the penguins fail to return to get Alex, Gloria, Marty and Melman who are still in Africa, the group of friend decide to take matters into their own hands and go to Monaco in order to find the penguins, while they must also find a way to go back to their New York zoo.
Review:
Madagascar was absolutely brilliant. It was funny, new, and the animals definitely had style. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa was absolutely rubbish. It looked as though the writers just wanted to get done with it, even thought it implied sacrificing the quality of the plot and dialogues. It was thus with apprehension that I decided to go see Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. I have to admit that it was better than the previous one, but terrible compared to the very first one. I just feel like Madagascar 1 was made to be appealing to both adults and children, while the two sequels are made almost specifically for children. I didn't get to laugh much, especially since I thought the jokes were pretty cheap, and some of the scenes were designed for the 3D, which is good but disappointing if that's all the movie is about. Mind you though, the soundtrack is quite nice, which artists such as Edith Piaf, Andrea Bocelli, Journey and Katy Perry.
Apart from that, the movie seemed to be a really long one to me, and I was rather appalled by the depiction of foreigners. They were of course toying with cliches, but that just seemed too much and overall completely ridiculous.
Now, I have to say that my point of view is one of an adult, and most children were laughing in the movie theater. They especially seemed to like the character of Chantel Dubois, especially since they could appreciate it fully, unlike me who couldn't get over the fact that her character barely sounded French.
So basically, I do believe that young kids will like this sequel, but adults should be warned that they might find the time a bit long.
Woah! You have done so much here. I was just looking for some shows by Andy Yeatman online. It was good coming across this post. I can show this movie to my kids on the coming weekend. Every weekend I watch a movie with my kids.
