Memorable quotes:
Will: "Abby, are you alright?
Abby: Yeah, I was just looking at crabs. Daddy, don't worry so much.
Karen: Yeah Daddy, don't worry so much. We'll be fine."
Will: "So you have a kid?
Cheryl: What the fuck are you talking about?
Will: C-section scar?
Cheryl: No, I had an ovary taken out.
Will: Wrong kind of scar. I'm a doctor Cheryl. I know what I'm looking at. How can you do this when you have a kid of your own?"
Karen: "How do you pick the families who you go after?
Joe: Well, they gotta be rich. They gotta have kids the tight age. And the moms have to be pretty."
Joe: How can a woman that look like you be shy?
Karen: "Don't move an inch.
Joe: What's that?
Karen: It's a scalpel, Joe. It will take your equipment off so easy you'll barely even feel it.
Joe: Jesus Christ.
Karen: Now, pick up that phone and call Marvin.
Joe: Like you've got the guts.
Karen: I will castrate you with no more thought than slicing a chicken's neck."
Will: "This is succinylcholine Cheryl. If I inject this into your body, you'll be paralysed. You'll be able to see, hear, and think, but you won't be able to move and you won't be able to breathe.
Cheryl: The fuck you're doing man?
Will: Cheryl, I've seen murderers turned into babies by this stuff. But you have a choice. You can tell me where Joe is holding Abby, or you can find out what it feels like to die."
Joe: You think you're smarter than all the other moms... but you're not. Because see, they didn't hurt me. And their kids are still alright.
Joe: You can keep that gun if you want, if it makes you feel any better. But I just wanna tell you something about that gun. It kills two people with one bullet. Me... and Abby.
Joe: You see, unlike me, most kidnappers are morons. They all get busted the minute they go for the ransom money. They try all kinds of complicated shit. But you know, the fact is that no ransom pickup is safe from the FBI. You should see the statistics. Near zero kidnappings are successful. You know why? It's because of the ransom pickup. That's why I'm ain't gonna pickup any ransom. Is that beautiful or what?
Plot:
When the daughter of a young and successful doctor is kidnapped, he and his wife find themselves under the power of a gang of serial kidnappers, whose leader believe he has just created the perfect kidnapping.
Review:
Trapped has already aired several times on TV, and each time it was branded as a mediocre thriller. I agree that there wasn't that much suspense, and it was fairly easy to foresee what was going to happen or the kidnapper's real motivations, but I still feel like Trapped is a decent thriller.
The acting was particularly good, and it really increased the film credibility. I did spend a good time watching it, and I think that's the most important thing.
I mean, Charlize Theron is just a fantastic actress. Ever since I've seen her in Monster, I feel like she doesn't have to prove how talented she is anymore. I can't say that I've liked every single movie she's starred in, but no matter how poor the script is, she's always done a good job when it comes to acting.
Dakota Fanning also starred in this movie ,and she was adorable to watch. Even from a very young age she was such a good actress, you could easily predict her acting career wasn't going to stop anytime soon.
Stuart Townsend and Kevin Bacon did a great job as well. Kevin Bacon especially played so well that versatile character of Joe. I mean , Joe is probably the most fascinating character of the whole movie. He is of course doing some awful and despicable things, but at the same time you feel for him, for you know he's suffering. He's isn't kidnapping children just for the sake of it, he is on a path of revenge and you just know it has taken over his life. I loved the interaction he had with Charlize Theron. Both their characters have very strong personalities, both care about their children and in that respect they are somehow very alike. Their motivation, however, is what tear them apart. I feel like the movie is really focusing on them, and I can easily understand why. Kevin Bacon was just as touching and vulnerable as he was dangerous and unpleasant. The duality of his character was really interesting and that's something he played really well.
Now, I must say that when it comes to Courtney Love, I'm not sure whether she's acting or just being her natural self.
So basically, this might not be the greatest film of all time, but this is still a well played and enjoyable thriller, and I did feel a for those two shattered families, whose life happened to be dramatically linked.
