Rio

Directed by: Carlos Saldanha

Memorable quotes:
Blu: "Okay, you pull it together. The key is not to panic.
Jewel: I'm not panicking.
Blu: I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to me."

Jewel: "Whoa, hi! What are you doing?
Blu: What? What you wanted me to. But just for argument's sake, what are you doing?
Jewel: I am trying to escape.
Blu: Yeah, escape, that's where I was going with that thing I just did.
Jewel: Wait, wait. Did you actually think we were going to kiss?
Blu: No! It's not what you think.
Jewel: We just met!"

Blu: I know how my feathers look, but I am not that kind of bird.

Linda: "Oh, Blu. We should have never left Moose Lake. This is all my fault.
Tulio: No, no Linda, Linda, please. This is not your fault.
Linda: You're right. It's not my fault. It's your fault!
Tulio: What?
Linda: With your little bird talk and that whole "save the species". Well, you know what? Squawk, squawkity, squawk, squawk! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to curse!"

Jewel: "Play dead.
Blu: What? I don't need to play dead, I'm about to have a heart attack.
Jewel: Just do it! Stop twitching!
Blu: Come on, it's the twitching that sells it."

Blu: Not cool, man! Scary, but not cool!

Blu: "I can't.
Jewel: What? You can't what?
Blu: I can't fly!
Jewel: You couldn't tell me this before now?
Blu: It didn't matter before now!
Jewel: I hate you. Is there anything else need to know?
Blu: Yes, I can't fly, I pick my beak, and once in a while I pee in the bird-bath. Happy?"

Jewel: "This is great! I'm chained to the only bird in the world who can't fly!
Blu: Actually, there are about 40 species of flightless birds.
Jewel: Duck!
Blue, No, ducks can fly.
Jewel: No, duck!"

Jewel: "Now, come on, we need to find a safe place to spend the night.
Blu: Safe? Safe? We are in the jungle. You know when people say "it's a jungle out there?" Well, I'm pretty sure they don't mean it as a good thing.
Jewel: Look, I hate to break it to you, but this is where our kind naturally lives.
Blu: Hey, hey, don't talk to me about nature. I watch Animal Planet."

Blu: "See? Who needs flying?
Jewel: Birds. Birds need flying."

Jewel: Are you sure this is gonna work?
Blu: Positive, check out my map.
Jewel: Yeah, that's comforting, thank you.

Jewel: Be careful Blu. They might smuggle you to death.

Blu: "What is it with this kid and the feathers?
Rafael: We have no idea. We're having him tested."

Jewel: I guess love is deaf, too.

Rafael: "Now, put your wings around each other.
Blu: What?
Rafael: Come on, amigo! It's not like she's going to bite! Will you?
Jewel: We'll see!"

Rafael: I like you: nothing you say makes any sense!

Blu: Rescue first, freak later.

Nigel: Hot dog coming through!

Nigel: I don't know how I got up here, but I ain't never coming down!

Blu: I'm not gonna let you go. We're chained-to-each-other-birds, remember?

Plot:  When Blu, a domesticated macaw, is sent to Rio de Janeiro in order to mate and save the species, he clashes with the fiercely independent and craving for freedom Jewel, the only other macaw left. Despite their differences, the two of them will have to help each other in the face of danger, when they are both captured by dealers.

Review:

Rio is such a sweet movie and I'm really surprised I never heard more about it. I mean, the story is sweet, the characters are funny and lovable, the storyline is easy to follow and a bit predictable, but still really enjoyable. Basically, Rio is a feel good movie, that you can just watch without much effort, which is really nice sometimes!
I was really glad about the voices they chose as well: Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jane Lynch, Jamie Foxx and Will i Am, amongst others. Somehow I couldn't help but picture Anne Hathaway delivering her dialogues everytime Jewel spoke and it really cracked me up!
What I love most about this film is the music. Just AMAZING! It definitely adds something to the movie and I loved hearing Will i Am and Jamie Foxx singing together. The samba also helps build up the atmosphere since most of this animated movie is meant to take place in Rio.
I did read some bad reviews about it though, and I guess not everyone can like the same thing, which I suppose is actually a good thing. Like I said before, the storyline is completely predictable and you can easily guess the ending, but I don't think it really matters in this particular case. I think this is an entertaining type of animated feature film only. I still love the message the film is delivering though: love can make you move heaven and earth and it can really help you turn your life around.
Basically, I'd say that Rio is a nice animated movie to watch if you just want to relax, have a good time and a good laugh.
