Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Memorable quotes:
Alan Grant: "How fast are they?
John Hammond: Well, we clocked the T.Rex at 32 miles an hour.
Ellie Sattler: T.Rex? You said you've got a T.Rex?
Alan Grant: Say again?
John Hammond: We have a T.Rex.
Elllie Sattler: Put your head between your knees.
John Hammond: Dr Grant... my dear doctor Sattler...welcome to Jurassic Park."
Ian: I'm simply saying that life always finds a way.
Ellie: "So, what are you thinking?
Allan: That we're out of a job.
Ian Malcolm: Don't you mean "extinct"?"
John Hammond: Spared no expense!
Ian: Genetic power's the most awesome force the planet's ever seen but you wield it like a kid that's found his dad's gun.
Ian Malcolm: "God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs.
Ellie: Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth."
John Hammond: I don't blame people for their mistakes. But I do ask that they pay for them.
Ian: What have they got in there? King Kong?
Ian: "Eventually, you do plan to have dinosaurs on your dinosaur tour, right?
John Hammond: I really hate that man."
Donald Gennaro: "Where did you find those?
Tim: In the box under my seat.
Donald: Are they heavy?
Tim: Yeah.
Donald: Then they're expensive. Put them back."
Ian: I hate being right all the time.
Allan Grant: "The radio's out too. Gennaro said to stay put.
Ian Malcolm: Kids okay?
Allan: I didn't ask. Why wouldn't they be?
Ian: Kids get scared!
Allan: What's scary? it's just a little hiccup in the power.
Ian: I'm not scared.
Allan: I didn't said you were scared.
Ian: I know."
Dennis Nedry: No wonder you're extinct! I'm gonna run you over when I come back down.
Allan Grant: "That's not too bad, right Timmy?
Tim: Yes, it is!
Allan: It's like a tree house. Your dad ever build you one?
Tim: No.
Allan: Yeah, me too."
Lex: "Don't let the monsters come here.
Allan Grant: They're not monsters Lex, they're animals. These are herbivores.
Tim: That means they only eat vegetables. For you, I think they'd make an exception!
Lex: I hate the other kind.
Allan: The other kind just do what they do."
Tim: "What do you call a blind dinosaur?
Allan Grant: I don't know. What do you call a blind dinosaur?
Tim: "Do-you-think-he-saurus". What do you call a blind dinosaur's dog?
Allan: You got me.
Tim: A "Do-you-think-he-saurus' Rex"."
Ellie Sattler: "It's still the flea circus. It's all an illusion.
John Hammond: When we have control...
Ellie: You've never had control! That's the illusion. I was overwhelmed by the power of this place. But I made a mistake, too. I didn't have enough respect for that power, and it's out now. The only thing that matters now are the people we love."
Lex: "Go away!
Allan Grant: It's okay. It's a Brachiosaurus.
Tim: It's a "Veggie-saurus" Lex, "Veggie-saurus.""
Lex: "I bet I could climb over to the other side before you could even get to the top.
Tim: what would you give me?
Lex: Respect!"
Allan Grant: "After careful consideration, I've decided not to endorse your park.
John Hammond: So have I. "

Review:
I remember
watching Jurassic Park as a child. All I can remember is being really scared
of the dinosaurs by then, and being incredibly impressed by the special effects. Years
and years went by, and I only recently had the opportunity to watch it again as
an adult, when a dear friend of mine let me borrow his dvd.
Turns out
dinosaurs still scare me a little, only not as much. What struck me was how human some looked. I
mean, at times they have human expressions and I thought that was highly
disturbing!
Naturally,
there are so many movies using special effects now, that I wasn’t as impressed
anymore, although I tried to keep in mind how unusual it was at the time.
It is such
a cool movie though. Rarely do I use this adjective to describe a movie, but I
think it definitely fits this one. Jurassic Park is funny, witty, and really
interesting if you like dinosaurs, which I think everyone did at least once as children.
Now that I’m an
adult, I realize that some of the themes were actually really serious. It shows
fairly well the danger of science and of misusing it. Cloning is especially dangerous as you never know how it might turn out. Not everyone can play
god. In fact, no one should. This film shows particularly well the risks of
putting elements that are not meant to be brought together in the first place.
Dinosaurs and humans, in this case, do not belong in the same era. They
therefore cannot live together.
I also like
how it showed that nature and animals doesn’t have bad intentions, despite
everything human beings can do to damage them.
One
sentence of the movie I really liked was when Grant explained that the dinosaurs
that were vegetarians were of course harmless, but that the other kind aka the
carnivores, well they just did what they did. In other words, that’s just the
way they are.
Furthermore, the casting is amazing. Laura Dern, Sam Neil and Jeff Goldblum are my favourites. I thought they were amazing and they all had such a good chemistry with one another. This movie also gives the possibility to watch a young Samuel L. Jackson in action, which I find rather amusing now.
For all those reasons, and because this movie is still really original and could be considered a classic now, I'd definitely recommend everyone to watch it at least once in their life!
