What Lies Beneath

Directed by: Robert Zemeckis

Memorable quotes:

Claire Spencer: "What's their name again?
Norman Spencer: Feur, I think. Psych department. Figures, they're all nuts."

Claire: "She's awake.
Norman: We'll be quiet. Quick and quiet.
Claire: I don't want to be either.
Norman: When is she out of here?
Claire: Norman Spencer!"

Norman: If I don't get you out of here quick, they'll make you enrol.

Norman: "You guys take good care of each other, okay?
Beatrice: I won't go to a single bar without her."

Claire: Oh, a couple of Swedish sailor cells just gang-divided a virginal cheerleader cell.

Claire: "You are so brilliant.
Norman: Yep.
Claire: Madame Curie, Jonas Salk, Norman Spencer.
Norman: Yes!"

Norman: "Tired?
Claire: Nope.
Norman: Want to fool around?
Claire: Yep"

Claire: "What are you afraid of?
Mrs Feur: That someday I'll just disappear."

Claire: "Good, I'm good.
Jody: Are you?
Claire: Why does everyone find that so so surprising?
Jody: Because your only daughter just left for college, who you're extremely close with."

Claire: "Okay, I'm a little tender.
Jody: Good. You're human."

Jody: It's a beautiful thing, alimony. You lose a husband-get a car!

Norman: "We're going to be...
Claire: Fashionably five minutes late."

Norman: Maybe she was out, or in bed with the flu. Or maybe she was abducted by aliens for all you know.

Jody: "Are we hoping the ghost is gonna have to use the potty?
Claire: This is where she was. This is where I saw her."

Claire: "Did you pick up any dudes yet?
Jody: I have one in the trunk."

Mary Feur: Have you ever felt so completely consumed by a feeling for someone that you couldn't breathe? Thought that your time together was so passionate and consuming that you felt physical pain when they'd leave?

Norman: Don't let her corner you or she'll chew your ear off.

Norman: "It's too rough.
Claire: Since when?"

Norman: "You're playing.
Claire: She's gone.
Norman: How do you know?
Claire: I can feel it."

Norman: Claire, I don't know how to apologize to you for what I've done. But if you give me another chance I promise you I'll spend the rest of my life making you glad that you did.

Norman: You have no idea what it was like. Hold her underwater... watch her life slip away.

Norman: It was a passive-aggressive masterpiece.

Plot:

Soon after Claire's daughter leaves for uni, Claire has to accommodate to a near empty nest. Her husband, an eminent research scientist, is often gone for his work, leaving Claire on her own a lot. Review:

What Lies Beneath is definitely one of my favourite thrillers and has been for years. Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford don't have to prove they are great actors to anyone, and you can just see why. Their performances are absolutely mind-blowing and the two of them has an excellent chemistry, which means that as an on-screen couple, there are completely believable.
I'd say that what I like most got to be the diversity of the genres we can find in this film. Sure it is a thriller, but it also contains some fantastic and paranormal elements, while also looking like a typical suspense movie.
There are so many films that try to create suspense for the viewers, yet fail miserably. This time however, I had to wait toward the end of the movie to find out what was going out. You often find yourself to be following a wrong track and there are so many twists and clues you need to assemble like a puzzle, I don't think you'll be bored!
Like Michelle Pfeiffer's character, you are left wondering what happened: What is the accident everyone is talking about? Why did she have a nervous breakdown? Was she suicidal? Is she going crazy? Has her daughter really gone to uni? Who are her strange neighbours?
Chances are, you'll keep trying to answer all those questions while the story unfold!
I thought Harrison Ford did extremely well, and I believe it might be the only film I've seen him play such an ambiguous character.
What Lies Beneath also flirts with the horror genre at times, and at some point you'll definitely be scared and jump out of your seat. I think the lack of understanding that we have regarding what is happening helps build some terror, as there is nothing more frightening that something you don't know or can't see. When glass starts shattering, when doors are closing without any reasons, when there are fumes coming from an enclosed space, or when there is a ghostly face appearing in a glimpse and disappearing just as quick, all those elements help keep you in a rather tender and nervous state.
I was also fully satisfied by the ending. Contrary to a lot of films, this one had a real closure and that I really appreciate. It also contains lots of actions and I was so scared for Michelle Pfeiffer's character, which also shows that her character had been developed enough for me to develop compassion toward her.
In sum, What Lies Beneath is one of the greatest thrillers you can find. It is suspenseful, deceitful, scary, and will keep you on your toes the whole time. A must see!

  2. DR WILLIAMS CURED 7 YEARS AUTISM
I am sharing this testimony for my daughter who suffered autism for 7 years. I am doing this, because I was her mother and caregiver  during her dark days and am very happy to share it so that others can be helped through  DR WILLIAMS HERBAL MEDICINE. It was a tough a battle for her; I was not actually the one who hard autism, but bearing the burden makes me understand what parents whose children and love with autism go through.
Lesia now 19 and was diagnosed with autism at the age of twelve, for seven years, she fought against her diagnosis. I must admit it was never easy for us as a family; we had to constantly watch her, and answer questions that we couldn’t explain. On several occasions, she asked if she will ever stop having speech delay and get well like her school mates and be the best swimmer she dreamt of becoming. She was a very happy child; and had a ‘normal’ childhood and there was no suggestion that she would later on develop autism.
She refused to accept defeat and fought autism. She religiously kept to her medications in spite of their side effects. We all wanted a cure, so that she can chase her dream and live a normal life like every other child. But the more she takes these medications, the more her school grade drop. She couldn’t concentrate and we noticed that her memory was being severely adversely affected. Each time we went back to the hospital, her medicines were changed to a different one. Seems like, each change of drug brings about change in side effects. After about 6 years on   Abilify ,  Geodon  , and other medicines, it seemed the autism started to increase in frequency. I had to make effort to reduce her medicines with plans to eventually stop it all. We found an alternative treatment in homeopathy, which was better than her English drugs. Gradually, I reduced her drugs, and her autism were no longer as frequent as it was as when she was on conventional drugs.
With our little breakthrough with homeopathy treatment, we made further search for natural cure. Fortunately we saw testimonies about herbal medicines which cure autism. We saw a lot of claims though, contacted them and didn’t get a useful reply. Lucky for us, we finally got a reply from Doctor Williams, he directed us to his blog where we saw a lot of information about his herbal medicine . Without further delay I made a purchase for her, I switched her over to it. We had great breakthrough, that in 3 weeks, her autism reduced. After 1 months as Doctor Williams promised , all autism symptoms stopped. It was like a miracle for us. since all this days now Lesia became autism free. Her story is quite lengthy, I hope it also help someone out there.for more information you can email Dr Williams on drwilliams098675@gmail.com
