Memorable quotes:
Gwen Stacy: I thought it was great what you did out there. It was stupid, but it was great.
Gwen: "What's your name?
Peter Parker: You don't know my name?
Gwen: No, I know your name. I just want to know if you know your name.
Peter: Peter. Parker. Peter Parker.
Gwen: Okay, okay good. "
Uncle Ben: "Yes or no: do I have to call somebody's father?
Peter: No, no.
Uncle Ben: I wouldn't tell your aunt May. I pity the pour kid who would have to suffer her wrath."
Receptionist: "Are you having trouble finding yourself?
Peter: No, I got it.
Receptionist: Okay, mister Guevara.
Peter: Gracias.
Receptionist: De nada."
Gwen: Where I go you go. That's the basic rule.
Aggressive man on the train: Get your hand off!
Peter: I'm trying to get my hand...
Aunt May: Something is very wrong...
Uncle Ben: Yeah, nobody like your meatloaf!
Dr Curt Connors: I was angry. So I stayed away from you and your family, and for that I'm really sorry.
Uncle Ben: He's got you on his computer! I'm his probation officer.
Peter: My uncle. He is a pathological liar and thought you were someone else.
Uncle Ben: Don't answer that, but I'm glad to know it's working.
Spider-Man: "U know, in the future if you're gonna steal a car, don't dress like a car thief man.
Car thief: What are you? You a cop?
Spider-Man: Really? You seriously think I'm a cop? Cop in a skin tight red and blue suit?"
Spider-Man: Oh no, you found my weakness: small knives.
Policeman: "Freeze! You in the tights, don't move!
Spider-Man: You serious?
Policeman: Who are you?
Spider-Man: No one seems to grasp the concept of the mask."
Captain Stacy: So, 38 New York finest, versus one guy in a unitard. Am I correct?
Peter: "You don't have to wait for me you know.
Aunt May: Yes, I do.
Peter: No, you don't.
Aunt May: Yes, I do!"
Peter: "Aunt May, please please please, go to sleep.
Aunt May: I can't sleep! Don't you understand? I can't sleep!"
Peter: "I think most people would say that he as providing a public service.
Captain Stacy: Most people would be wrong. If I wanted the car street off the street, he's already be off the street.
Peter: So, why wasn't he then?"
Peter: I'm sorry. You know, I thought he was gonna arrest me at one point?
Peter: "I've been bitten.
Gwen: So have I."
Gwen Stacy: Oh, I'm in trouble.
Peter: Put in one, the mask. It's gonna make you strong.
Jack's father: "Who are you?
Peter: Spider-Man."
Peter: "Whatever was attacking them would have killed them, so I gotta go after it.
Gwen: That's not your job.
Peter: Maybe it is. "
Dr. Curt Connors: Why the sudden interests in the cold-blooded?
Gwen: "Dad, I do not want coco. Honestly, I'm seventeen years old!
Captain Stacy: Okay, I just thought I remembered somebody saying last week their fantasy was to live in a chocolate house.
Gwen: Well, that's practical. And fattening!"
Gwen: Easy, bug-boy.
Peter: What did you call me?
Gwen: Everyday for as long as I can remember my father has left every morning and has put a badge on his chest, and strapped a gun to his hip. And everyday for as long as I can remember I haven't known if he was gonna make it home.
Spider-Man: You're not thinking straight doc. Stop, this isn't you!
Peter: You got to let me go.
Lizard: "Poor Peter Parker. No mother. No father. No uncle. All alone.
Captain Stacy: He is not alone."
Stacy: I was wrong about you Peter. The city needs you. Here, you're gonna need this. You're gonna make enemies. People will get hurt, sometimes the people closest to you. So I want you to promise me something, okay? Leave Gwen out of this. Promise me that.
Peter: I can't see you anymore. I can't.
Gwen: He made you promise, didn't he?
Aunt May: Did you ask her out?
(Peter shakes his head)
Aunt May: Why?
Peter: Can't.
Aunty May: Why?
Peter: I'm just not good for her
Aunt May: Peter Parker, if there is one thing you are it's good. Anyone has a problem with that can talk to me.
Uncle Ben: If anyone's destined for greatness, it's you son.
Uncle Ben: So come on home Peter. You're my hero. And I love you.
Peter: "Cool shirt.
Flash: Yeah. Dude's crazy. But chicks dig him. "
Miss Ritter: "Don't make promises you can't keep mister Parker.
Peter: Yeah, but those are the best kind. "

Review:
I remember really liking Spider-Man as kid-despite a clear aversion for spiders- and it was thus with delight that I watched the three Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Although I did think they were good, I couldn't find anything special in them, and when the second movie came out, and then the third one, I wasn't excited to see them. In fact, I could barely watched them entirely without being bored.
Now, I have to admit that for some reasons, I really dislike Tobey Maguire as an actor. I thus didn't like him as Spider-Man either. Kirsten Dunst is an incredible actress, but I didn't really think she had any chemistry with Tobey Maguire.
Still, I was somehow dubious when I heard that a new Spider-Man movie was being made. At first I imagined it would be yet another sequel, only to find out that it was the opposite: they were back to square one. I was more than sceptical, clearly wondering why bother make a movie that had already been made before? What more could they do since everyone already knew how Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
I still gave it a shot and it was with apprehension that I set foot in the movie theater.
I can now say that I completely loved it. In fact, I loved it so much more than all the other Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. This one did manage to grasp my attention, and I really felt for the characters. Andrew Garfield is a perfect fit as a young Peter Parker, and Emma Stone, who is one of the most brilliant actress of those last few years, did a remarkable job as Gwen Stacy, her love interest. The two of them have a great chemistry, and I'm not surprised that they are dating in real life as well. The only think I might have slightly disliked is actually the name chosen for Emma Stone's character. Each time I heard it I kept laughing in my head thinking of Gwen Stefanie. But maybe that's just me!
I can positively say that I liked everything else about it: all the actors were amazing, even the supporting roles with well-known names such as Sally Field ( E.R., Brothers and Sisters) and famous Martin Sheen. The special effects and graphics were also good, some of the lines were really funny, the plot unveiled clearly and smartly, and it was a lot more faithful to the comics than what had been done before. For instance, contrary to Tobey Maguire, who when playing Spider-Man had webs coming out of his flesh, this new version shows Peter Parker create a device specially to throw webs. I know this is only a detail, but it actually means a lot, and I can only assume that all the fans of the comics will appreciate that.
I'd say that this movie is kind of divided in two parts. The first one shows Peter as a normal and somehow lonely teenager, and then the transformation that leads him to become the famous Spider-Man. Then the second part is devoted to the Lizard and how he must stop it, while his relationship with Gwen grows.
Basically, I thought this had to be the best Spider-Man that had been adapted on the big screen so far. This one truly is amazing.
