The Huntsman: Winter's War

Directed by: Cedric Nicolas - Troyan

Memorable quotes:

- Narrator: "What does the mirror show you? What do you see?"

- Narrator: "There is another story. One you have not yet seen. One that comes long before happily ever after."

- Narrator: "With the mirror at her command, Ravenna was invincible."

- Ravenna: "Is it love, truly?
- Freya: It is love, truly. [playing chess] Your move.
- Ravenna: Why should I bother? You always win.
- Freya: You always let me win.
- Ravenna: I suppose you are my weakness."

- Ravenna: "All the women of our blood are gifted Freya. And in time you will find the source of your power as I found mine. You'll see."

- Ravenna: "Freya, I'm not being cruel. I simply wish to protect you.
- Freya: You may be surprised how things turn out. You know much, Ravenna, but you do not know all.
- Ravenna (to herself): I'm afraid I do."

- Narrator: "Consumed by grief and anger, Freya left her sister to seek a kingdom of her own in a land far to the north. There the people would come to fear her very name. For if she could not raise a child, then in its place she would raise an army."

- Narrator: "Freya turned the once green farmlands of the north into a frozen wasteland. There she built her fortress and ruled as the Ice Queen."

- Freya: "How lucky you are! You're with me now and you will never know this suffering again."

- Freya: "Love is a lie. It is a trick played by the cruel on the foolish and the weak."

- Freya: "In my kingdom there is but one law: do not love! It's a sin and I'd not forgive it. Let's hear no more family and love. These illusions are beneath us. I freed you from them. And in exchange from this precious gift I ask only one thing: your loyalty."

- Freya: "You've done well my children. Very well."

-  Freya: "I gave you both everything! And in return you betray me for love."

- Freya: "Do not beg me! It is weak. You are weak."

- Freya: "Love conquers all. So I've heard."

- Narrator: "Once upon a time, a man and a woman fell in love. But such things cannot last. For the heart is a treacherous thing and love... love is nothing more than a fairy tale."

- William: "Eric, Snowhite is unwell. The mirror. She said she couldn't stop looking at it. She could hear its voice calling for her. That's why she sent it away."

- Tull: "The entire white lands are ours You've won.
- Freya: Have I?"

- Eric: "Perhaps you'll have better luck with your own kind.
- Nion Have you ever seen a female dwarf?
- Eric: No, I can't say I have.
- Nion: Horrifying."

- Random Huntsman: "Freya doesn't care how you die. No one cares. You're already forgotten."

- Sara: "You have aged."

- Sara: "Dead, is that what you told everyone? You poor heart broken widower. That story must have wet the eyes of many young lasses. Maybe more than their eyes."

- Sara: "There is no hope for love. Love ends in betrayal."

- Sara: "You're not the tracker you think you are.
- Eric: I've been a little distracted."

- Gryff: "You expect us to believe that?
- Mrs. Bromwy: I expect you to stand there and look ugly and stupid and say nothing else."

- Nion: "I get thirsty sometimes if it's hot or I'm running.
- Doreena: Me too! Or sometimes if I eat something very salty like roast chicken."

- Nion: "Don't you miss.
- Sara: I never miss."

- Gryff: "There is nothing out there that can take us.
- Eric: That's right.
- Sara: I took you in the cavern.
- Mrs. Bromwy: I took you as well."

- Nion: "What's this on called?
- Doreena: That's just a flower.
- Nion: I think it's beautiful.
- Doreena: I think you're beautiful.
- Nion: Me?"

- Freya: "Oh, what are these? Dwarfs! They're just like children.
- Mrs. Bromwy: We're far from children, bitch queen.
- Freya: Adorable."

- Gryff: "Eric, she is not cupid. I doubt that an arrow to the chest is an expression of love."

- Mrs. Bromwy: "So what you gonna do? Track all the way to the frozen north, face an evil sorceress and her entire army?
- Eric: Aye.
- Mrs. Bromwy: Alright. I'm in!"

- Ravenna: "Do not back away from me. You asked a question. The mirror has answered.
- Freya: Ravenna, how? Are you not dead?
- Ravenna: Yes...No. Something in between."

- Ravenna: "Do not forget what you owe me. I made what you are."

- Gryff: "It's not my sister's fault. She was hit in the face with a rock as a baby."

-  Freya: "Why?
- Ravenna: Why? They're in love. They reek of it."

- Ravenna: "You see, huntsman, love doesn't save your life. I should know. I've been there before."

- Sara: "Stand or fall, together."

- Mirror: "I ask nothing. I am but a reflection. And you, you have already decided."

- Freya: "I loved her. I loved you.
- Ravenna: That's why I'm stronger than you."

- Freya: "Leave my children alone!"

- Freya: "How lucky you are."

- Narrator: "Once upon a time lived a beautiful queen whose heart was broken in two. But even buried under ice and snow, love survives."

- Mrs. Bromwy: "Are you gonna give up that easily? God you're stupid."

Plot: Warriors Sara and Eric must fight for their love in a kingdom where love has been forbidden by the evil Ice queen Freya...

Review:

Considering both how much I had loved the trailer of The Huntsman: Winter's War and the talented actors and actresses starring in that movie, it is with excitement that I was awaiting the theatrical release of the film. I sooo badly wanted to love it, and yet in the end I was rather disappointed for the movie is rather dull. I didn’t think there was anything original at all and the fake accents were really cringy. There was a few funny moments here and there thanks to the “dwarfs” but that’s about it. I found myself quite bored throughout the movie but maybe I’m just too old for it as I’ve met children who actually really enjoyed the film. To me however the only good aspect was Emily Blunt who once again proves she is an amazing actress, no matter how poor the script she has been given.

  1. Would it be impolite if asked your age? I'm 25 and I loved, just not as much as the first. The subtleties of this one weren't nearly as developed as well as the first, which ones were actually here.

However, it was a great expansion on Ravenna's character, as well as Eric's. It even does even good meta explanation as to why we never see she-dwarves (grammar?). Freya's personality change was rather iffy, but the point is that she's literally crazy after what happened: psychotic. It broke her heart so thoroughly that it drove her literally insane and made her believe her monstrous sister, that love is pain and weakness, even for others. (Hence the literal psychosis. I know, not very good, but it's at least reasonable and MAKES SENSE with her highly traumatic past.)

I agree it's unoriginal and the accents suck, but neither are big deals to me, though to each their own. With accents, at least Hollywood has gotten the memo about how annoying garbled Received Pronounciation accents are though, right?
